They always are partial views- filtered through the individual lens of the biographer

2. I always have to separate the personality of the artist from the products of their artistic labors. I am a firm believer that artistic work transcends the limited personality although it is definitely influenced by it.

Years ago , after I read a biography on Monet-well I hated him for the way he treated his wife. And biographies on both Chagall and Picasso demonstrated how childish they were in their relationships with women-- but that doesn't take away from the genius of their art.

Just my thoughts..................mira M. She must have been a real pain in the ass to be around - as any alcoholic is. What a pity! I don't understand how she ever made those paintings.Nancy Natalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03325421420384484035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9064353933668888339.post-32805116914232087592011-09-07T18:08:49.429-04:002011-09-07T18:08:49.429-04:00Thanks for this post NAncy. I wished there was more about her painting process and less about who she slept with, drank with and all the rest of the name dropping.
It is quite amazing how insecure and miserable she was and how damn joyous her paintings were and still are!!lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01438282508299206670noreply@blogger.com
